Context

tvh.com is where fleet owners, dealers and service companies first meet TVH, and where existing customers start their way into the webshop. It has to introduce a company with 47 million part references, over a million parts in stock and customers in 170 countries, and help visitors search by part or machine before they log in. I work on the redesign of the site’s structure and key pages as a UX/UI designer.

What made it hard

  • Two audiences, one front door. Existing customers heading straight for the shop, and new visitors who first need to understand what TVH offers.
  • Explaining scale. Dozens of machine types and millions of references, made quick to grasp and easy to search.
  • Built around the customer's machines. Buyers think in terms of the equipment they own, not the catalogue, so the public site has to connect naturally to machine-based search in the shop.
  • Many stakeholders, many countries. Pages have to work for marketing, sales and search across country sites.

What I did

  1. Research

Interviews with TVH sales, customer support and marketing colleagues across regions, captured in research reports for the product squads.

  2. Information architecture

A new site and homepage hierarchy built around visitor types and their first task.

  3. Page design

Homepage and key entry pages, designed with sales and marketing so they work for prospects as well as for existing customers.

Reflection

On a public site the hardest part isn't layout, it's agreeing on who each page is for. Settling that early saves weeks later.
